September: Sons of Norway Invade T-Mobile Park!

Image
Sons of Norway Invade T-Mobile Park!    On August 21 and 23, members of Poulsbo Sons of Norway traded fjords for fastballs and headed to Seattle's T-Mobile Park for a memorable weekend of baseball and fellowship. The Seattle Mariners hosted the Chicago Cubs, and our group was treated to an exciting series filled with big hits, home runs, and plenty of action on the field. With great seats, great company, and great baseball, the outings were a home run for everyone involved,  offering a wonderful opportunity to share cheers with fellow lodge members for the Mariners (or Cubs) in one of the Pacific Northwest's premier sports venues.   Friday (Mariners win)    A special thank you goes to Jan and Wayne Slusher and Brian Smith  for organizing this fun-filled event and making it such a success. We  look forward to more adventures together in the future!  Go Mariners, Go Cubs, and skål to good friends and good times!  --Curtis V...

The Adventurers’ Club – October 7 Social & Potluck The Adventurers’ Club – October 7 Social & Potluck The  Adventurers’ Club  is an outdoor-focused group exclusively for members of Poulsbo Sons of Norway. We’re still a young group — just about nine months old — but we’ve already been having a great time getting outdoors and connecting with fellow members. We hold monthly meetings, typically on the  first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.  All meetings and events are posted on our group page,  Poulsbo Sons of Norway Adventurers’ Club , which I encourage you to join to stay in the loop. Our goal is simple:  share ideas, get outside, and create memorable experiences together.  Activities can include day hikes, backpacking, mountain biking, camping, cross country skiing, and just about anything else that gets us outdoors. With so many new lodge members joining us in September, we’re making our  October 7 meeting a social and potluck ....

September: A St. Olaf Pilgrimage from Stikelstad to Trondheim

Image
By Joanne Graves  From the feast of Saint Olaf (July 29) to the memorial of his canonization (August 3), my daughter and I walked 100 kilometers on the St. Olaf Pilgrim Trail in Norway. We started our pilgrimage in Stiklestad, the battleground where St. Olaf died in 1030. The medieval church there houses the stone on which St. Olaf died and a special Mass was held on the eve of his feast. With chocolate and brown cheese in our packs (change of clothes and rain gear, too) we started on our way. The route we followed took us through towns, forests, and lots of farm land. We soon discovered that raspberries grow wild in Norway. Each night we stayed at a pilgrim accommodation, mostly farm houses. Our hosts were friendly, and the food was good everywhere we stayed. Along the way we visited a bunad shop, went swimming in a river, pet some friendly Grey Tronder sheep, visited medieval churches and Viking burial mounds, saw some ancien...

September: Saying Goodbye to Christina Webster

Image
Celebrating and Saying Goodbye to Christina Webster It is with both gratitude and sadness that we say goodbye to our wonderful Office Manager, Christina Webster , as she begins an exciting new chapter in her career. For the past six years, Christina has been the heart of our Sons of Norway Lodge, serving with professionalism and an unwavering commitment to our members and community. While we are thrilled for her as she takes on her new role as Nursing Scheduling Manager at Martha & Mary , we know her departure will leave a tremendous void. During her time with us, Christina's contributions have gone far beyond the responsibilities of managing the Lodge office. She worked alongside Cheryl Hall and Carly Wolfe to revitalize our venue rental marketing efforts, significantly increasing both the visibility of the Lodge and the number of rentals. Her creativity, energy, and willingness to emb...

The date for our upcoming Lutefisk Feast has been set — January 23, 2027! This is an important event for our lodge. Not only is it a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and share an important Norwegian tradition and cultural heritage, but it also helps give our lodge’s balance sheet a nice boost to the new year. As in previous years, we plan to offer three seatings: late morning, mid-afternoon, and afternoon. The meal will feature lutefisk, homemade meatballs, traditional sid...
